Brick repair in Palmdale CA - new mortar that matches and protects your brick
Crumbling or cracked mortar joints wear an old brick wall down. We repoint them with a color-matched mortar so your original bricks stay put.

Brick repair that starts with the mortarand keeps your original brick

At Capstone Palmdale Concrete and Masonry, most brick repair calls in Palmdale start with sandy, crumbling joints or a crack wandering through the mortar. Usually the bricks themselves are fine, so the fix is repointing, where we clear out the worn mortar and pack fresh mortar back into the joints.
Before we touch the rest of your wall, we mix a small batch of mortar and try it in a hidden spot, so you can see the color match first. If only one section is worn, we fix that section and leave the sound joints alone.
What moves the price is how many joints need new mortar, whether any bricks are cracked and need replacing, and how easy the wall is to reach. The schedule mostly turns on the size of the job and whether it needs a permit. I'll give you the figure for your wall in a written estimate.
You'll get a straight answer about what your wall needs and what it doesn't, so call (661) 382-3390.
What our brick repair covers
We look at what the brick is part of and what it's doing before we choose the fix, so a garden wall and a house front don't get the same recipe.
Worn and crumbling joints
Sandy or sunken joints are where most wear shows. We clear out the worn mortar, taking care not to chip the brick edges, and pack in fresh mortar.
Cracked or leaning walls
A wall that's cracked through the brick or starting to lean needs a closer look before any patch. If it holds back a slope, retaining wall construction may be the real fix.
Brick steps, planters and borders
Small brick features wear at the joints just like walls do, so we repair them in place, and we lay driveway pavers when the drive beside them needs work too.

Brick repair questions
How do I know my mortar needs repointing?
A masonry trade guide says it's time to repoint when the mortar has worn away more than ¼ inch, crumbles, or shows hairline cracks or gaps, or when bricks are cracking along with the joints. The same guide puts mortar's life at roughly 25 to 50 years against about 100 years or more for the brick, so an older wall often needs new joints, not new brick. It also says to have a mason look at the wall first, which is why every job of ours starts with me walking it with you.
Why does the strength of the new mortar matter?
New mortar should be as strong as the original mortar or weaker, because brick industry guidance says stronger mortar can lead to spalling, where the face of the brick breaks away. Mortar is meant to be the softer part of the wall, so water and salts move out through the joints instead of through the bricks. It's a fair question to ask any mason before they start on your wall.
What is the best time of year to repoint brick?
Spring and fall usually work best, according to one home services site, since it looks for daytime temperatures between 40 and 90 degrees for at least 24 to 72 hours. The same site says emergency work in winter or a heat wave will likely cost more, so if your joints are worn but holding, it pays to plan the repair ahead.
Can an unlicensed handyman do a small brick repair in California?
Only on minor work up to $1,000, and only when the job needs no permit and the worker hires no one to help. Anything past that calls for a licensed contractor, so it's worth asking before someone starts on your wall.
How much does brick repair cost in Palmdale?
The cost of brick repair in Palmdale comes down to how much of the wall needs new mortar and how deep the old joints have worn. Matching the color of older mortar takes more testing, and a whole wall costs more than a few worn sections. Often only part of the wall needs work, and I'll tell you so when I write your estimate.
Do I need a permit for brick repair in Palmdale?
That's decided by whichever office covers your address, and inside the city it's Palmdale's Building and Safety office, which handles permits for new, remodeled and existing homes and takes questions about applying at 661-267-5353. Some homes with a Palmdale mailing address are actually in unincorporated Los Angeles County, so the first step is checking whether the city or the county covers yours. We check that before we start, and if your job needs a permit, we handle the application and set up the inspections.

Book your brick repair in Palmdalewhile it's still just mortar
Call (661) 382-3390 or use the form while the wear is still in the joints, since a repair that stays in the mortar is usually a smaller job than one that reaches the bricks.
